I've had to explain to them that their voter serial number will not be recorded on the ballot paper, so I have been trying hard to educate them on the secrecy of their vote.

Of course, the same can't be said about the army and police postal votes, because they have to submit an identification form with their postal votes, clearly their votes are not confidential.

Anyway, keep up the fight for free and fair elections, that's what all Malaysians deserve :)

Re: Serial No. On My Voting Slip!

My hubby has voted a few times. He is an accountant i.e. very sharp eyes. LOL. The ballot chit will have numbers but this time, they don't note which ballot chit number matches with which voter. Previously, they noted the ballot chit and the voter registration number. This time, they don't.

The ballot chit has to have numbers or else you can trust that our EC will dump a lorry load into some seats. LOL.

So, I think we can safely say that this time, the Government really cannot find out who voted for who.

Re: Serial No. On My Voting Slip!

I really hope that you're right Klaw. I'm hoping that this serial no. is truly a non-issue. Also thanks for the info on the use of a camera.

Yet I clearly remember people telling me that there is not supposed to be any sort of number on the ballot paper! So I stumped on the issue.

Also it's not my intention to scare people to vote in fear! I absolutely support free and fair elections for each and every one. I've been telling people to go and vote and not to abstain from voting as their vote can make a difference.

Re: Serial No. On My Voting Slip!

Proud of you to have voted so fast. I haven't vote yet.

Re: Serial No. On My Voting Slip!

I want to add that since this is a new rule, some veteran election clerks might not know this and will mark your VOTER serial number on the ballot. This is not allowed, and you should state so immediately.

Re: Serial No. On My Voting Slip!

I honestly think your issue is a non-issue.
All ballots have to have their own serial number for calculation purposes and fraud detection (note that its not for prevention). Think the same as our ringgit malaysia.

When you entered, they called out your serial number, and in elections past, your serial number would be on the ballot paper.

This time around, the only number on the ballot paper is a different serial number (call your other friends to notice this when they vote, just to see if I am correct). This elections, your vote truly is secret, and your blog post might just scare people into voting based on fear.

P.S. You're not allowed to use cameras in the polling stream :)
